My Poem based on Jesus' High Priestly Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer

He looked at them with love & sorrow

knowing full well what would come tomorrow

“The future you face brings trouble and trial,

fear not, take heart,” he said with a smile.

After saying these words he looked to the skies

the love of the Father still filling his eyes.

What will he utter what will he pray

while knowing the disciples have no power to stay.

“Father, father the time has now come

glorify the Son for we two are one.

Whatever glory you give I’ll reflect back to you

for all that you’ve given I’ve proclaimed to be true.

To all you have chosen I give eternal life

I call them out of the sorrow and out of the strife.

And this is life, that they might know you

for you are the gospel and the gospel is true

It is for your glory I’ve come to this earth

I’ve long brought you praises, even from birth.

Exalt me now Father to your right hand

and in our glory, exalted I’ll stand.

To all you have chosen I manifest your name

they keep your word and extol your great fame.

They look at me now and faithfully sing

sent from the Father, truth he does bring.

I pray for them only and not for all

for the ones you have chosen, the ones big & small.

Being yours and mine they stand justified

their lives transformed & my name glorified.

Father, I’m coming to you, my life here is done

sin will be conquered and victory won.

I pray for them Father, for they will remain

keep them from strife and disunities stain.

In me each abides and none have I lost

they have surveyed the course and counted the cost.

They bear your name and overcome Satan’s ploy

I pray for them hope and I pray for them joy.

They are not of the world they are of me.

Insult and hate their inheritance will be.

Around them Satan crouches in hate,

keep them in the world and safe from his bate.

As they live in the world sanctify them

cleanse them O Father in the fruit of your pen.

It is for you and for them I go to the cross

and surrender to suffer and suffer great loss.

My momentary loss will bring them such gain

they will go out in the world and proclaim your great name.

So I pray for them Father and those they will reach

that our glory will be known to all that they teach.

The glory I have to them I pass

though they will die and wither like grass.

Protect them Father until all work is done

Join them together, together as one.

From everlasting to everlasting your glory is mine

this to no created creature did you ever assign.

I want them to see my glory and power

I long for them to be with us this near hour.

The world does not know you my magnificent Father

busy and blind they don’t even bother.

My disciples and I know you forever

to walk with another we will never endeavor.

These you have chosen I love as my own

I call them my brothers, bone of my bone.

I’m in you Father and in me they stay

it is for your glory I ask and I pray.
