Funny...But Not

Now, Jeremy, I am sure you will find this more interesting than the rest of us, but I would love to hear thoughts from anyone...

This is interesting. Although I usually agree with almost everything that Piper has to say, I'm not so sure on this one. He goes after the guy's dad pretty vigorously. What about the girl's dad? If not for his decision to allow her to wrestle we wouldn't have this problem. I have to be honest. I wouldn't have ever forfeited to a girl. Especially at the state tournament. I think that if a Christian father/guy is concerned about wrestling a girl, if the guy is good, then there are ways to end the match very quickly and without possibility of questionable touching that will not violate any God-given responsibility we have a guys. The problem only arises when the guy wrestling the girl is no good and the match is, sadly, somewhat even. In that case I'm not sure what to do, but I'm inclined to think that there is a way to wrestle a girl and a way not to wrestle a girl. Unfortunate as it may be that girls, and their fathers, put themselves into situations like a wrestling match with a guy, they have done so by their own volition and I think that there is a way that the guy can, if it is a concern of his to do so, wrestle the match as a gentleman so as to preserve her honor and still win the match.

You may be like this in gymnastics too, but generally I give little credence to criticisms of a sport when the person criticizing has never meaningfully been part of the sport and its culture. I don't know for a fact, but judging by the article, I have my doubts about the amount of time Piper has spent in the wresting world. This sort of detachment lends itself to misinformed criticism based upon an isolated perception wholly excised from the pertinent context. Just as we don't interpret Scripture out of context, we should likewise be careful about interpreting other things without the advantage of the their context.

I read part of the article, and then the parts of Jeremy's post that I could understand. It's quite clear to me that this kid is in law school. Haha can I quote this for a min.

Excised? Is this a contract or a blog post?

I don't agree entirely with Piper either and would say that it's more situational as Jeremy stated...at least I think that's what he said.
