When J.I. Packer Speaks I Listen

If you have a few minutes I would encourage everyone to listen to Packer talk a little bit about theological training and the work of a minister of the gospel.

Let me know what you think!

How does one go about achieving a willingness of the congregation to learn the Bible?

I think it all starts from the pulpit. The pastor has to preach the Bible and in his preaching clearly explain the difference this sort of teaching makes. After that I think that the elders need to create a culture of Bible through one-to-one discipleship. Make no mistake, this is something achieved over the long haul. Most churches are pretty weak with this, I think, largely because the average pastor ministers for three years in any given church. That is insanely brief!
