I hope all is well in your lives. I am in agreement with Daise, we need some updates. What is going on in your lives? Are you guys feeling as busy as I do? This time of the semester is nuts.
Thankfully, today I got to spend the afternoon reading C.S. Lewis. Sure, it was for school, but still, it felt like spending an afternoon with an old friend. I love reading Lewis because it takes me back to high school when I first discovered him. I think Lewis actually taught me to read. This afternoon I was reading The Great Divorce mostly. I am moved by the fantasy world that Lewis could create with his writing, while simultaneously being edified in my walk with Christ. I also read a little out of the third chapter in his book Miracles. It is hard for my contemporary mind to fathom just how far ahead of his time Lewis was when it came to apologetics. Still, his writing reminds me that there is nothing new under the sun, especially from those who in the futility of their thinking deny the existence of the very God that allows them to take each consecutive breath. I think I miss philosophy.
Andrea has been doing well. She is working hard in school and loving being a nanny and, of course, my wife. She is heading home this weekend to see her family, which is cool because it makes her parents happy. She's absolutely fabulous.
On another note, I got in my first car accident this week. A woman turned left into me in her company Cadillac, ouch! Of course, her car had no damage, but the little put-put Co-Cart has a nice little dent, which her employer is eagerly paying for. The accident shook me up a bit. I wasn't scared for my safety, but I was afraid of having to do a bunch of paper work. I hate paper work! Still, the situation could not have turned out better. God blesses me again and again.
Tomorrow I get to hear Ray Ortlund preach at chapel. He preached on Tuesday as well. The sermon was phenomenal and I would recommend it to all of you, especially if you ever plan on teaching the Bible in any capacity. It is such a blessing to have this time of training and preparation for life and ministry.
Ok, enough about me. I miss you guys!
(andrea here) I think that Matt should realize that he wrote more about ray ortland than he did his wife. Will this guy ever get a clue?

matt,
the great divorce is incredible. i enjoy how lewis wrote his books to complement each for those who think in different fashions. i find it amazing that lewis could do both. it is interesting though how tolkien despised lewis' fiction, mainly the narnia series. tolkien believed that lewis' greatest strength was his apologetics. as his mentor, he felt as if lewis was incredibly under developing a story with obvious and simple themes. well, i guess this comes from the man that created the lord of the rings world, so there may be some legitimacy. i think there was also some jealousy on tolkien's part because of his pupil's immediate success in the publishing world. check out a book called the inklings that is about tolkien and lewis' literary group. but what you should really check out is lewis' science fiction series. i think this is his best fiction. his imagination and themes go well beyond the world of narnia.

Do you remember when we tried to read miracles together with Jon Bishop in high school. None of us understood it at all, it was great. I read chapter three in Miracles the other day, so good! I finally get it and it is so good.
